    What are seamless gutters?

Seamless rain gutters are just as the name implies – seamless. The only seams in the gutter are at the corners (mitres) where the seamless sections meet.

How do seamless gutters differ from sectional gutters?

Since there are as few seams as possible, the gutters have practically no chance to develop leaks. This one of the main reasons that they are the most popular type of gutter sold today. The only seams are at inside and outside mitres ( corners ). Seamless gutters installed by Cascade Creations NW are sealed using Vulkem 116 polyurethane sealant, hung using Hang-Tite hidden hangers, and fastened with 1 inch zinc plated steel screws.

Cascade Creations NW carries an in house warrantee on every installation for five years to ensure that every job is a job well done.

Seamless gutters are usually made from aluminum, but they can be made from copper. Both of these materials are corrosion resistant and will likely outlast any structure where they are installed. The gutters are custom made on site using our seamless gutter roll forming machine.  Each individual gutter is custom cut to fit your home.

With a conventional sectional gutter system, like the type sold at the hardware stores, there are many sections of guttering all pieced together by snap-in-place connectors. Over time these sections form leaks in the seams and can cause wood rot behind the gutter.

What are the advantages of seamless gutters?

When is it necessary to replace gutters?

If the exterior of your house has mold or peeling paint, it could be a sign that your gutters need fixing or replacing. Snow and ice can build up within the gutters,  causing damage or leaks to the home. (It is a myth that gutters cause ice buildup – instead it is caused by heat escaping too quickly from your home.)

Clogged downspouts and debris in gutters can cause them to pull away or sag from the home. They may not be pitched correctly, leaving standing water that attracts insects and mold. If the installation was done using spikes to fasten the gutters, they are almost guaranteed to work themselves loose over time.

Other signs that the gutters may not be working correctly are cracks in the foundation of the house or water in the basement. Clogged gutters can cause water to overflow, allowing water to buildup around the foundation which can lead to uneven settling of the ground under the foundation or flooded basements.

In any of these situations, getting a gutter professional such as Cascade Creations NW to assess the problem is the best step you can take to correcting your problem.

    Do gutters cause ice build-up?

Ice that continually freezes in gutters can be a pain in the neck for homeowners. Once ice has clogged the gutter or the drainpipe, thawing causes water to overflow the gutter, and subsequent freezing can lead to roof damage and dangerous ice patches on the ground. Understanding what causes ice build up is the first step in solving the problem.

The main cause of ice build up on the roof has to do with Poor Attic Insulation. Heat escaping through the roof of the house melts the bottom of the snow that is on the roof. This melted snow trickles down until it reaches the edge of the roof. When it reaches the gutter, it is no longer warmed by the heat from the house and it freezes into ice. This process can eventually build up large amounts of ice on and around the gutter.

Other reasons for ice build-up are un-maintained gutters, blocked downspouts or drainpipes, and improperly sloped gutters.

    Are colors available?

Yes. A wide variety of colors are available for standard aluminum gutters. The high quality baked enamel finish never needs painting.

Cascade Creations NW takes pride in the small details such as matching colors for gutters and downspouts, and making sure the screws are painted to blend in on the downspouts.

    How does CCNW install gutters?

    Seamless Aluminum Gutter Installations :

Cascade Creations NW will arrive at your property with a seamless gutter roll forming machine. Each gutter is carefully measured and custom cut to fit as perfectly as possible, then fastened with screws to the fascia. In the case of rafter tail only installations, 2 inch screws are used.

All mitres (corners) are hand cut and most are assembled on the building. The single seam at each corner is fastened with four 1/2 inch screws (tob, bottom, front curve and back tab) and then sealed using Vulkem 116 polyurathane sealant, which retains elesticity and seal for 30 years.

Cascade Creations NW uses Hang-Tite hidden hangers, from Raytek, which interlock into the gutter for a cleaner look and stronger gutter.  We have found these to be the best hanger for the Seattle area. The hangers are spaced every 24 inches apart to offer the most effective strength and durability against the weight of snow or ice. Hang-Tite hangers are far superior to traditional spike and ferrule gutter fastners. Spikes are notorious for working their way out of the rafters or fascia; they expand and shrink with changes in temperature and humidity.

    Half-Round Gutter Installations :

Cascade Creations NW will arrive at your property with pre-fabricated 20 ft lengeths of half round gutter. Each gutter is carefully measured and custom cut to fit as perfectly as possible. The hangers are then fastened with screws to the fascia. In the case of rafter tail only installations, 2 inch screws are used.

All half round gutter mitres (corners) are factory fabricated.

All copper gutter seams are painstakingly sweated together using silver solder. ZincAlume other steel half round gutters seams are fastened with rivets and then sealed using Ruscoe 12 in 1, a nitrile, rubber based sealant.

CCNW uses zinc plated steel screws for their proven strength and longevity under real life conditions in the Puget Sound.

One of the most important aspects of installation is a proper pitch to the gutter so fine debris and water flow properly toward the drain. We water test every installation to ensure proper drainage and inform the client if there is any settling problems with their structure. Additionally, CCNW guarrantees for 5 years that our gutters, when properly maintained, will hold no more than 1/8th of an inch of water.

Cascade Creations NW carefully assesses your structure and landscaping to assist you in finding the best location to direct runoff away from the building. We also offer drainage system installation sevices. From simply adding tightline for new a downspout, to complete curtain drain systems for muti-residential and apartment buildings.

At Cascade Creations NW, aesthetics is one of the important parts of installation.
